In 2014, the year of its 50th anniversary, the Ford Mustang will star in the big-screen version of the popular videogame "Need for Speed," the Ford Motor Company said.
From the time of its launch in 1964, the Ford Mustang has been one of the most popular cars in movies and on television.
The iconic Ford model has appeared in almost 3,000 films and television series since, just a few months after it was launched in 1964, it appeared in the James Bond movie "Goldfinger."
But if any movie helped the Mustang capture the imagination of millions it was Steve McQueen's "Bullit," which featured what is considered one of the best car chases in the history of modern movies.
The Mustang, with its classic logo of the galloping steed, will return to theaters when DreamWorks Studios releases "Need for Speed" in March 2014, based on Electronic Arts' videogame driving series.
The Mustang that will appear in "Need for Speed" has a much more aggressive look that usual, with a wider body, lower suspension and special 22-inch wheels, Ford said. Under the hood is a supercharged 5.8 liter V8 aluminum motor modified by Ford Racing and generating 900 horsepower to meet that need for speed. EFE
