Zoanette Johnson is making sure America knows she can handle ‘the jungle’ of what the music industry can turn out to be.
The Liberian contender took on the classic song “The Circle of Life” from "The Lion King” and had all the judges, particularly Mariah Carey, giving her two thumbs up.
The sudden death rounds for the remaining females took place Wednesday night in Los Vegas.
“It’s almost like your spirit is too big to be contained,” Carey told Johnson with a smile from ear to ear.
Johnson crooned passionately to the emotional tune which pop star Nicki Minaj called “such a smart choice.”
“You are unforgettable, a superstar,” said Minaj. It [the song] matches who you are and where you are about to be.”
The “Va Va Voom” star then chocked up as she told Johnson how “proud” she was of her because her siblings in Liberia were going to be watching her perform well on the show.
Music executive Randy Jackson agreed with both Carey and Minaj calling the flamboyant Johnson “a champion” whose spirit is “infectious.”
"America, Zoannette showed you right there tonight this is the reason she is here. That spirit that you have is really the spirit of a lion,” he said.
Johnson joins Tenna Torres, who already made it to the final rounds of the show last week.
Torres left the judges in awe with her smooth and emotional performance of Natasha Bedingfield’s song “Incompatible.”
“You reminded me why I fell in love with your voice before,” said rapper Nicki Minaj
“Something of the tone of your voice reminds me of the 1980’s R&B singers.
There is no tone like that in the business right now.”
Carey actually agreed with Minaj that time around (the pop stars usually spend their time going at each other) saying that Torres was “naturally giving a beautiful, pure performance.”
