Singer Rihanna has donated $1.75 million to a hospital in Barbados in memory of her grandmother Clara "Dolly" Braithwaite, who died in June, U.S. media reports said.
The 24-year-old singer visited the hospital Saturday with her mother, Monica Fenty, and her grandma's husband, Lionel, E! News said.
The donation from the Barbados-born artist will go to the radiation department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, which will be renamed the Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.
"This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program...I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados," the singer said in a statement sent to E!News.
Rihanna said she expected that the medical assets purchased with the donation will "save lives or at least extend them." EFE
