Costume designer Salvador Pérez Jr. may be a veteran in creating wardrobe for several Lifetime television movies, such as “William & Kate," but when it came to transforming actress Lindsay Lohan into Elizabeth Taylor, it proved to be a new challenge for him to tackle.

“I was really put to the test to make the movie believable and iconic at the same time,” Pérez told Entertainment Weekly. “And also, we’re talking Elizabeth Taylor and Lindsay Lohan, two women who wear clothes very differently. I had to be inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, but flatter Lindsay Lohan.”

Fortunately for Pérez, he was able to do both after discovering one common weakness the 26-year-old shared with the Oscar-winning actress.

“Lindsay was constantly watching Elizabeth Taylor movies,” explained Pérez. “At the beginning of the way we’d have a fitted costume, but she’d completely change it at the last minute just because she was inspired by something else. Anytime something was going wrong, I’d just pull out more jewelry and say, ‘Look, something sparkly, something sparkly! That usually placated her.”

Taylor's jewelry collection was legendary, stirring headlines even after her passing at age 79 in 2011. In December that same year, Christie’s announced their auction of the late star’s jewelry was the most valuable in history, raising over $137 million. The biggest hit was a 16th century pearl named La Peregrina, which sold for over $11 million. The prized pearl was a gift to Taylor from husband Richard Burton, which was given to her in 1969 after purchasing it for $37,000 at an auction. La Peregrina was first discovered in the Gulf of Panama and was part of the crown jewels of Spain for generations.

“Liz & Dick” aired Sunday night to poor reviews, but was praised on Twitter by LiLo’s father, Michael Lohan.

“You proved the critics wrong @LindsayLohan you are one of the best, so gifted, so amazing!” tweeted Lohan's father. “Now apply it ALL! God bless you! And our family! All the critics should find new jobs! They know nothing about @lindsaylohan talent! She has more talent in her pinky than all of them together.”
