Caetano Veloso felt from close up the warmth and affection of some of the most famous figures in the Latino music industry during the tribute paid to him in Las Vegas, where he was handed the 2012 Person of the Year award.
"I want to thank the Latin Recording Academy for all of this," said the Brazilian after actress Sonia Braga, also from Brazil, presented him with the golden gramophone and gave him a kiss.
"I would like to thank all the people who sang my songs here tonight," he said moments before individually greeting all the artists who had performed, including Natalia Lafourcade, Alexandre Pires, Nelly Furtado, Juan Luis Guerra, Lila Downs, Enrique Bunbury, La Mala Rodriguez, Juanes and Alejandro Sanz, among others.
The tribute concert was hosted by Gabriel Abaroa, the president of the Latin Recording Academy, and singer Julieta Venegas.
"I come as a fan of Caetano," the Mexican songstress told Efe. "When they told me there'd be no room to perform, it didn't matter to me, because I asked what I could do and they told me to host. I'm thrilled to be, in some way, a part of the tribute, which I feel is very well-deserved," she said.
