Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Sofía Vergara made Forbes magazine's 2012 list of the world's 100 most powerful women.

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was ranked by the magazine in the No. 3 spot.

The Puerto Rican actress and singer of hits such as "On the Floor" and "Dance Again" came in at No. 38 on the list headed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and followed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

JLO earned about $52 million last year from her diverse projects in the entertainment industry and also launched successful clothing and perfume lines, revived her television and movie career and this year began her first international tour, the magazine said.

Also climbing for the first time into the ranking was Colombian singer Shakira in 40th place. The songstress has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, won two prestigious Grammy Awards and another seven Latin Grammys.

The performer of "Loca" and "La tortura" is on the verge of signing a $60 million contract for her next three albums and tours, and at the same time is maintaining her social commitment to the Fundación Pies Descalzos, through which she is promoting educational programs.

Also appearing on the list for the first time is Shakira's compatriot, Vergara, in 75th place thanks to her position as "the best-paid actress in television" and the star of ABC's series "Modern Family."

Other Hispanic women appearing on this year's list include Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in 16th place and Petrobras-Petroleo Brasil CEO Maria da Gracas Silva Foster in 20th place.
