Singer-songwriter Shakira is six-months pregnant but is waiting "a prudent amount of time" to tell the world she is expecting, according to news flashed on the cover of Gente magazine's Colombian edition.

The publication cites "a highly reliable source" and adds to the rumors spread over the past few weeks by various media outlets, against which her representatives have no plans "to make an official announcement in that regard," Shakira spokesperson Rodrigo Beltran told Efe.

According to Gente, "it was all planned" because motherhood is a priority for the 35-year-old artist, who doesn't want to wait much longer to have a baby.

In recent days, the singer of "Loca," "Hips Don't Lie" and "Waka Waka" accompanied her boyfriend, soccer player Gerard Pique, to follow closely every play he makes in the Spanish national team's matches during the Euro Cup 2012 tournament.

Mexico's TV Notas magazine said that Shakira is trying to hide her pregnancy because she could be suffering from toxoplasmosis, whose presence during pregnancy can have negative effects on the forming of the fetus. EFE
