Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra denied on Tuesday a report that he left his long-time church in Santo Domingo because his wife was jealous of the female pastor.

Pastor Lucy Cosme, who heads the evangelical Villa Bendicion ministry, said Guerra 's wife, Nora, accused her of being in love with her husband and pressing him to donate money to the church.

Cosme told Dominican television it was she who led Guerra to Christianity and claimed to have been the international star's spiritual guide for several years.

Guerra, however, said Tuesday that he has belonged to another church, Mas que vencedores, for the past 12 years, even serving as musical director.

"The Lord guided me to her (the church), not any man," the singer said in a statement released in San Juan by his manager, Angelo Medina. Guerra went on to describe his wife of 26 years as his "greatest blessing" and called the pastor of Mas que vencedores Church a "gift from heaven."

The 54-year-old Guerra has sold more than 30 million records worldwide and won a dozen Latin Grammys.
