Shaila Durcal, Belanova and Motel were among the attractions at a party in the Mexican capital organized by the Latin Recording Academy ahead of next month's Latin Grammy awards ceremony in Las Vegas.

Tuesday night's event featured performances by Durcal, Italian singer Marco di Mauro and Mexico's Jot Dog and Leonel Garcia.

The president of the Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Abaroa, said holding the awards gala in Mexico, as some have urged, would be difficult due to "logistical, technical and security" problems.

He went on to suggest that staging the Latin Grammys anywhere in Latin America is a dubious proposition, as the "unpunctuality" of the region's artists would project a "very bad image."

Calle 13 is nominated for Latin Grammys in 10 different categories.

The Puerto Rican reggaeton duo will vie with Colombia's Shakira and Spanish crooner Enrique Iglesias for Album of the Year honors at the 12th Latin Grammy Awards gala, set for Nov. 10 at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas.

The event will be broadcast live on Univision.
