Los Angeles – Director Robert Rodriguez is using "4D Aromascope" technology for the fourth film in the "Spy Kids" series, production company Dimension Films said Friday.
"This innovative and celebrated franchise will now be the first to introduce audiences to the new adventure of 4D where they will have eight special opportunities throughout the movie to access the action interactively through smell," the company said.
"Families are going to love the interactivity of this new addition to the movie going experience," Rodriguez said. "And best of all, you won't have to pay extra for 4D Aromascope, which will be provided to every theater whether it be 2D or 3D."
Filmgoers will get an Aromascope card with eight, outlined numbers that they will be cued to scratch at the appropriate moments in the film, Dimension said.
Rodriguez was one of the first filmmakers to jump on the 3D revival bandwagon, embracing the technology for the 2003 "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over," which took in nearly $200 million.
