Mexican singer Kalimba has dropped the complaint he had filed against his ex-girlfriend for alleged extortion, Federal District Attorney's Office spokesmen told Efe.

The singer's ex-girlfriend alleged in an interview with a tabloid that he had abused her and may have raped her 5-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Kalimba filed a criminal complaint against the woman, who admitted that she was not telling the truth and asked him for forgiveness, Mexican media reported.

The singer was recently the subject of sexual abuse allegations by a young woman and ended up jailed for a few days while authorities conducted an investigation, which cleared him.

The case caused a media storm in Mexico, with the minor and her family speaking to various outlets about the alleged incident.

The singer later held press conferences and granted interviews, telling reporters that he was happy that he had been cleared and just wanted to move on with his career.

The 28-year-old Kalimba launched his career with the children's group Onda Vaselina, which later became the teen pop sensation OV7.

He launched a solo career after the group broke up and has not taken part in its reunions.
