This week on Being Latino on Facebook we discussed humanity, Halloween, Ohio, made in America, and our favorite topic, being Latino.

A 2 year-old girl was hit by a car and it took seven minutes and 17 passersby before any one helped making most who read this news question the level of apathy in our society.

Is dressing up as someone from another culture just Halloween fun or is it offensive? A group of students at Ohio University,’ Students Teaching About Racism in Society (STARS), have created a campaign to raise awareness showing that while some may think the costumes are just fun, in reality they depict another culture as its worst stereotype.

Also in Ohio, in contrast to the new anti-immigration laws in Alabama, the city of Dayton in Ohio has adopted a plan to encourage immigrants to live there, and to help the city thrive economically.

And as Latinos continue in certain parts of the U.S. are we in danger of losing our Latino? As we assimilate into American culture, we need to be more conscious about maintaining the parts of our culture that are important to us.

Finally, a monument created to honor one of our most revered historical icons, Martin Luther King Jr. draws controversy because it was made in China . Begging the question, should a memorial to a man who fought for human rights, be built in a country known for its human rights violations?
